Vision

To be the most effective enterprise in protection and conservation of freshwater of the hydrographic watershed of St Lawrence.

Problem statement

In november 2015, people from Montreal were informed that St lawrence river was being polluted by 5,000 millions of sewage caused by a problem in the pipeline system. The pollution of the river increased exponentially to critical levels.

Because of this some people got illnesses like: rash, typhoid fever, cholera and hepatitis, a disease which if is not well treated it can cause the dead. All of this led to take measures so that people avoided at all costs contact with water from the river.  

This happens a few times every year because the overflow of sewage and wet season.

Solution

The situation that we mentioned was our inspiration to create Appanko (which means “in the river” in an ancient language) an enterprise which want to keep the water clean in the hydrographic watershed of St Lawrence using the best technology to keep the people informed about risks of sewage in the river. Appanko proposes a service which everyone can access by browsers or smart devices, through this service you can see in real time the quality of the water and communicate the level of the pollution in it. In the other hand this service will warn about the problems and risks that the pollution brings, with the objective to create awareness, being a change factor and give a general view to the users about water quality in the river.

In that way, the information is registered by the installation of monitoring stations in geographic points between Montreal and Quebec, before, during and after the pass of the sewage.

Strengths

  1. Electrode can calibrates itself every week. 

  2. With one electrode we can analyze everything.

  4. Our solution can be implemented in buoys.

Weaknesses

  1. It is necessary check the machine conditions to prevent problems in the electrodes. 

  2. Electrodes have a minimum margin temperature (-5 grades celsius)

  3. It is important to calibrate the machine lot of times during its life cycle. 

 

Opportunities

  1. Good acceptation by the government and an alternative to include this project to resolve a public policy.

 

Threats

  1. Problem with drastic changes of the weather. 

  2. Accidental deterioration.
